Name of Artifact:

      Multicultural Fair Design
Date of Artifact:

      June 19, 2022
Course in which this artifact was produced:

      EDUC 255, Multicultural Teaching
Rationale:
I have included this artifact, Multicultural Fair Design, under Standard 2 because as the teacher I am understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities when building and preparing this multicultural fair. I made sure aisle ways were spacious enough for wheelchairs but also included eight very different cultural booths. I ensured inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards by having activities for each grade level at each booth to keep them engaged and push their educational learning to the maximum strength.

What does this artifact represent about me as a teacher?
This artifact demonstrates that I am able to plan, prepare, and organize a school wide event with sponsors. I figured out the materials all tables needed to have a fair that was inclusive for all cultures and disabilities. I researched the most successful tips when preparing a fair that then advised me to become more organized and as detailed as possible. The fair was directed towards the kindergarten through sixth grade students but was also opened for the community as well. In my slideshow I answer the questions present below:
-When and where will this take place?
-What activities will be going on?
-What grade level(s) will be participating?
-How many “booths” will you have?
-Will students be participating in the booths or just frequenting the fair?
-Who will you invite from your community to participate in the fair?  Will you invite                                      community members to view the fair?
-What topics will you cover? How will you decide this?
-How will you avoid stereotypes/tourist approach? How will you ensure all                                                     cultures/communities are included?
-How many adults/chaperones will be needed for your event?
-How many tables and chairs will you need?  What other resources might you need?
-How will you "advertise" the fair?

How does this artifact reflect my personal growth and strengths as a teacher?
When I first saw this assignment to be completely honest I froze. I have never planned something so large even if I didn’t technically put on the fair I still had to organize it as if I was. I put off this assignment because I was initially scared and intimidated by the amount of work that went into it. The artifact reflects my personal growth and strengths as a teacher because it shows how detail oriented I am. It also shows how dedicated I am for all my students' successes and needs but also shows how organized I am to make sure I present the best experience possible for my students to attend.

What skills do I want to improve in relationship to this standard?
This standard talks about understanding individual differences and diverse cultures, although I have not yet had much experience working with students coming from other cultures. Planning this event teaching a whole school about cultures and diversity was eye opening. I want to improve my skills in educating those about cultures. Coming from a small town community I don't tend to think about the other cultures and so when I see someone I stare because I am not familiar with their customs. As an educator I plan to teach my students about a different culture or custom each week according to their age level to make them more aware and inclusive to those around them.
