Philosophy of Teaching

The reason I want to become a teacher is bigger than having them meet the states curriculum every year. I want to be a teacher for the simple fact I want to help the students grow as a person in society and make an impact on them. I want to give my heart to raising these children to become the core of America that will one day become leaders. I wish my classroom to be a safe place in a struggling child's life. Just like Maslow's hierarchy of needs states, a child cannot move forward in the hierarchy if the basic needs are not met (Mcleod, 2020). I hope that as an educator I am able to take learning and turn it to make it creative and effective for all students.

I believe students learn best when they are able to connect on all four learning styles kinesthetic, auditory, reading/writing, and visual. I have studied VARK Theory which states students learn best when teaching methods and school activities meet their styles (Cherry, 2019). Therefore all children no matter their preferred learning style are able to learn the provided material efficiently. While using visual learning styles you should use pictures to get the children's attention. Using pictures will allow the children to be motivated to make connections to items they see every day. For example but not limited to, if you have a child with a special need, try wearing a lanyard with a printed picture of directions when the child sees the direction they know what to do. When teaching the children with auditory devices it is good to use stories and poems for the children to be able to catch on to that way they can make connections later. Another way students learn is by using a kinesthetic method which is giving them physical objects and allows the children to work out and learn the designated material. I personally believe this motivates children the best in the classroom by giving them objects and allowing them to be able to have the hands-on experience to figure it out.
